Haz-Mat Tech Training
9/14-18/2009 – Chief Barlow, Lieutenant Vogelpohl, and Firefighter/Paramedic Hatter all attended Haz-Mat training at Hebron . This 40-hour class will certify each member to the technician level. The class was both classroom and hands-on.
MVA on Burlington Pike
9/8/2009 – At 12:15 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to an MVA on Burlington Pike in the area of the Belleview/McVille Fire Protection District line, Squad 1164 from Belleview/McVille also responded to this incident. Car 726 arrived and found a single vehicle accident, the vehicle was upside down in the road ditch and all occupants were out of the vehicle. After checking the occupants they decided that they did not need transported to the hospital.
Building Fire on Southgate Place
9/7/2009 – At 16:53 units were alerted for a possible building fire in the 6400 block of Southgate Place . A neighbor was reporting smoke from a basement window and blinds in the window that looked melted. Engine 701 and Car 726 arrived to find a single-story single family dwelling with smoke showing from a basement window. Crews located a fire in the basement of the home, a search was conducted a proved negative. Hebron Engine 351 responded to assist on this call and provided RIT.
Building Fire on Peoples Lane
8/25/2009 – At 19:36 units were alerted for a possible building fire in the 2500 block of Peoples Lane . After the dispatch and prior to the units calling enroute PSCC further advised the units that there was a possible entrapment. On scene Engine 701 reported smoke showing from a 3-story occupied multi-family dwelling. The fire apartment was located on the ground floor and people on scene were confirming a person inside the apartment. A line was stretched and personnel started a search, shortly after entering the apartment a male was found laying face down in the living room. The victim was removed from the apartment and transferred to EMS personnel on scene. The fire was quickly controlled and contained to the kitchen area. The occupant was transported to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
MVA on Idlewild Road
8/25/2009 – At 18:34 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the 5600 block of Idlewild Road for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries. On scene personnel found a single vehicle accident, the vehicle had driven through a fence. Only minor injuries were reported.
MVA on Camp Ernst Road
8/9/2009 – At 06:56 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Camp Ernst Road and Soloman Road for a reported vehicle accident with a pole down. On scene units found a single vehicle accident, head-on into a pole, with no injuries. The utility company was again notified to respond.

8/4/2009 – At 21:28 Engine 701 and Squad 715 were dispatched to the area of Camp Ernst Road and Burlington Pike for a reported motor vehicle accident, wires downs. On scene the single occupant of the vehicle was checked and the utility company was notified of the downed wires and pole.
Building Fire on Baymiller Lane
8/4/2009 – At 13:19 units were alerted for a possible building fire in the 6200 block of Baymiller Lane , a caller was reporting a house on fire after a lightning strike. Units arrived and found fire from the roof of a vacant two-story single family dwelling. Hebron Engine 351 also responded and assisted with this fire.
Smoke in the Building on Taylor Drive
7/23/2009 – At 12:55 units were alerted for a possible building fire in the 6000 block of Taylor Drive at the Burlington Oaks Apartments. Car 725, Engine 701, Ladder 710 and Squad 714 arrived to find a 3-story multi-family dwelling with nothing showing. Upon investigation a 2 nd floor apartment was found to be full of smoke, personnel began evacuating the building, lines were stretched an a search for the fire was started. After investigating it was found that someone had turned on the self-cleaning feature on the oven in a vacant apartment.
MVA on Camp Ernst Road
7/22/2009 – At 14:19 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Camp Ernst Road and Soloman Road for a reported head-on injury accident. Engine 701 arrived a confirmed a two-vehicle head-on injury accident with one person injured. Squad 714 transported one to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
MVA on Pleasant Valley Road
7/22/2009 – At 12:40 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Pleasant Valley Road and Thunder Ridge Drive for a reported motor vehicle accident with possible injuries. Car 726 arrived first and reported a single vehicle accident, vehicle off the roadway and on its roof. The single occupant was checked by squad personnel and refused transport.
Lightning Strike/Flooding/Trees Down
6/25/2009 – At approximately 18:30 a heavy thunderstorm rolled through northern Boone County causing numerous storm related calls to flood Boone County PSCC. This department responded to approximately 20 calls as a result of the initial storm and a storm that rolled through the area at approximately 02:30 on Friday morning. The pictures below show a flooding situation in Hebron on Petersburg Road that Engine 701 arrived first on.
MVA on Locust Grove Road
6/24/2009 – At 17:35 Engine 701, 702 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the 8600 block of Locust Grove Road for a reported vehicle accident with entrapment. While enroute Squad 714 requested that UC Aircare be placed on stand-by, further information was given that there had been an ejection as well. First arriving Car 726 (Assistant Chief Klaserner) confirmed a two-vehicle head-on accident with one person heavily entrapped and multiple people laying on the ground around the vehicles. A total of 4 squads, 2 engines, 1 brush truck, 1 heavy rescue and 2 air-ambulances responded to this accident, furthermore a total of 8 people were transported to various hospitals. Units from Belleview-McVille and Hebron responded to the scene and units from Florence and Point Pleasant provided coverage.
MVA on Washington Street
6/21/2009 – At 14:05 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Washington Street and Rogers Lane for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. On scene units confirmed a two-vehicle accident and requested an additional squad.
Building Fire on Aly Sheba Drive
6/18/2009 – At 03:02 PSCC alerted units of a possible building fire in the 2500 block of Aly Sheba Drive . Car 726 arrived to find light smoke showing inside a bi-level single family dwelling. Upon the arrival of Engine 701 fire was found in the laundry room of the home, caused by a soldering operation that had taken place earlier in the day to repair a burst pipe. Hebron Ladder 360 responded to this incident as well and provided assistance with ventilating the building and assisting where needed.
Fuel Spill on Limaburg Road
6/16/2009 – At 05:50 Engine 701 was dispatched to the 6000 block of Limaburg Road , UDF-Oakbrook for a reported fuel spill. Upon arrival it was determined that approximately 15 gallons of fuel had spilled, this fuel had also run down the driveway and pooled in front of several businesses. 701 called for the assistance of EMA and Haz-Mat 373 from Hebron.
Building Fire on East Bend Road
6/10/2009 – At 18:18 PSCC alerted units for a possible building fire inside a garage in the 8600 block of East Bend Road , the caller was reporting flames showing inside the detached garage. Car 725 arrived to find medium smoke showing from a single story detached garage and upon investigation Engine 701 found that the homeowner had knocked down the fire with a garden hose prior to arrival. The area where the fire started was overhauled and the building was ventilated.
MVA on Burlington Pike
6/10/2009 – At 10:54 while talking in the bay area of the station personnel heard a car horn blow and then a crash in front of the station, after investigating Car 726 called PSCC and advised them of an injury accident at the intersection of Burlington Pike and Carlton Drive . Engine 701 arrived shortly after 726 as they were returning from a previous run on the other side of the District. One person was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Fatal Building Fire on Howe Road
6/3/2009 – At 15:48 Boone County PSCC alerted units for a reported building fire in the 8000 block of Howe Road , a neighbor was reporting a fire next door to her house. The caller was reporting flames and heavy smoke from the building. Car 726 (Assistant Chief Klaserner) arrived first to find a doublewide single family dwelling approximately 25% involved in fire on the A/B corner, a vehicle in the driveway and no one outside to meet us, “Howe Road Command” was established and ordered a 2 ½” attack line off of Engine 701 to knockdown the heavy fire, they were also advised to prepare for a search of the building. While the fire was being knocked down the engine Lieutenant and 725 (Chief Barlow) prepared to make entry and search the building, once inside a female occupant was found. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they deal with the loss of their loved one.
MVA on Production Drive
6/1/2009 – At 22:50 Engine 701 and Hebron Squad 364 were dispatched to a reported vehicle accident with injuries, a vehicle had reportedly drove through an overhead door and the driver was possibly injured. On scene personnel discovered that the driver had in fact drove through an overhead door, into the building struck another vehicle, driving it through the back door striking 3 additional vehicles. The driver was not injured and 701 returned to service.
MVA on Burlington Pike in Florence
5/31/2009 – At 16:42 Engine 701 was requested by “Burlington Pike Command” to respond to a motor vehicle accident involving a Florence fire truck at the intersection of Burlington Pike and Houston Road in Florence . 701 provided assistance as needed to the other Florence personnel and returned to service.
Diesel Tank Fire on Limaburg Road
5/29/2009 – At 18:53 Engine 701 was dispatched to the area of Burlington Pike and Limaburg Road after a sheriff’s deputy reported seeing heavy black smoke in the area. After investigating the deputy found the source of the smoke and reported to dispatch that a diesel fuel tank was burning in the 5600 block of Limaburg Road . A person on scene advised he was cutting the tank with a sawsall and started the residual fuel on fire at the bottom of the tank.
MVA on Burlington Pike in Belleview
5/28/2009 – At 13:55 Engine 701 was dispatched along with units from the Belleview/McVille FPD for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. On scene Squad 1164 reported a head-on accident with multiple people injured. Squad 714, 715, Car 725 (Chief Barlow) and 726 (Assistant Chief Klaserner) responded to this incident, 726 established “Burlington Pike Command” and 725 set-up a landing zone for the 2 requested aero medical copters that were requested.
Horse Rescue on Snyder Lane in Petersburg
5/28/2009 – At 11:09 multiple agencies from throughout Northern Kentucky were notified of a horse that needed rescue after becoming trapped in a lake. Pick-Up 740 and Gator 1 responded to this incident and assisted with moving equipment to the scene.
MVA on Lower River Road in Belleview
5/28/2009 – At 07:42 Engine 701 was dispatched along with units from the Belleview/McVille FPD for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries. On scene 701 assisted Belleview personnel as needed and returned to service.
Building Fire on Ridewood Court
5/20/2009 – At 00:18 PSCC alerted units for a possible building fire in the 6200 block of Ridewood Court . The caller was reporting a fire in the bedroom of the home. Upon the arrival of Car 726 (Assistant Chief Klaserner) he reported a tri-level single family dwelling with medium smoke showing from the “Alpha” side. A quick attack was made on the fire and fire damage was held to one bedroom.
EMS Week Open House
5/17/2009 – The department held an EMS Week Open House again this year to show off the various pieces of equipment that are available for use throughout the Tri-State region. We estimate that between 500 and 750 attended this year’s event. We would like to thank all the people that showed up and supported the event and we would also like to thank for many difference businesses and groups that supported us this year.
Structure Fire on Hobbittsrun Lane in Florence
5/14/2009 – At 06:19 during the height of a strong springtime thunderstorm Engine 701 was dispatched along with Florence Fire/EMS units for a possible structure fire in the 6200 block of Hobbittsrun Lane . First arriving Engine 103 reported flames showing from the roof resulting from a lightning strike. 701 assisted with overhaul on scene and returned to service.
MVA on Patrick Drive
5/8/2009 – At 14:15 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the above address for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival units found a two vehicle MVA, all parties were out of the vehicle and no one was seeking transport.
LZ Set-Up on Firehouse Drive
5/2/2009 – At 18:50 Engine 701 was notified by PSCC that Belleview/McVille Squad 1164 was requesting a landing zone to be set up at the firehouse for University of Cincinnati Aircare . They were transporting a motor vehicle accident patient to the hospital when the patient took a turn for the worse. 701 set-up the LZ and assisted 1164 where needed.
Kroger Safety Fair
5/2/2009 – The department again this year teamed with Kroger in Burlington to hold a Safety Fair on the lot of the store. The event was a big success again this year, drawing departments from across Northern Kentucky . The department would like to thank Firefighter/Paramedic Jeff Hatter for the hard work he dedicates to setting up this event.
MVA on East Bend Road
5/2/2009 – At 12:31 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the 6500 block of East Bend Road for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival the units found a single vehicle accident, with the vehicle on its top. The lone person in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-live threatening injuries.

4/30/2009 – At 17:39 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Burlington Pike and North Bend Road for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival units found that the crash scene was spread over several hundred yards. The engine crew did have to pop a door and Hebron Squad 364 was requested to respond.

4/23/2009 – At 18:06 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Burlington Pike and Taylor Drive for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. No serious injuries were reported.
MVA on Limaburg Road
4/19/2009 – At 19:03 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Limaburg Road and Burlington Pike for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival they found a single vehicle accident where a vehicle had run over several bushes and trees on a traffic island, no one was seriously injured.
MVA on East Bend Road
4/11/2009 – At 12:00 Engine 702 was dispatched to the area of East Bend Road and King Oak Drive for a reported small engine compartment fire after a vehicle accident. Hebron Engine 351 responded to this incident, as they were at the Boone County Fire Training Center with us participating in live fire training and Engine 701 was unavailable on the horse rescue incident. Upon the arrival of Car 726 he confirmed a working vehicle fire, with a utility pole down and a male sitting on the back of a vehicle covered in blood. At this point Belleview-McVille Squad 1164 was dispatch, as Squad 714 was unavailable on another run. 351 extinguished the fire and assisted with patient care until the arrival of the squad, the patient was transported without incident.
Horse Rescue on East Bend Road
4/11/2009 – At 10:39 Engine 701 was dispatched to the 6500 block of East Bend Road for a reported horse down, a vet on the scene was requesting assistance from the fire department. Upon arrival the officer from 701 assessed the scene, established command and requested the Northern Kentucky Technical Rescue Team. Upon the TRT arrival a plan was developed and the horse was lifted without incident.
Tractor Accident on Snow Road
4/2/2009 – At 11:24 Engine 701, 702 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the 2900 block of Snow Road for a reported tractor accident, with a person trapped underneath. University of Cincinnati Aircare was requested to the scene based on information personnel were receiving from the caller. Upon arrival entrapment was conformed and a plan was quickly formulated to remove the person trapped. The individual was removed from under the tractor within 45 minutes and transported by ground to the waiting helicopter approximately a ½ mile away.
MVA on Production Drive
4/1/2009 – At 10:47 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the 1500 block of Production Drive for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. On scene Car 728 discovered that a person riding a motorcycle had run up on the back of a vehicle, no injuries were reported and all units went available.
MVA on Camp Ernst Road
3/30/2009 – At 11:12 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the 7400 block of Camp Ernst Road for a reported vehicle accident. Upon arrival personnel found that a construction material delivery truck had ran off the roadway. The vehicle driver was not injured, however the vehicle was leaking a moderate amount of diesel fuel. Engine 701 requested the response of Boone County EMA and the incident was mitigated without any further problems.
Bomb Incident on Patrick Drive
3/23/2009 – At 12:46 units were alerted for a possible bomb at a business in the 1700 block of Patrick Drive . Upon arrival and after talking with sheriff’s units already on scene it was confirmed that an unknown package was in the rear of the building. The Cincinnati Fire Department Bomb Squad was called and after investigation determined that the package was harmless.
Brush Fire on Fieldhurst Court
3/22/2009 – At 15:29 units were dispatched to the 1200 block of Fieldhurst Court for a reported brush fire. On scene neighbors had the fire under control, FD personnel assisted with extinguishment and returned to service. Approximately a ½ acre area was left burned.
MVA on Burlington Pike
3/8/2009 – At 18:25 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the intersection of Burlington Pike and Burgundy Hill Drive for a reported motor vehicle accident. On scene units confirmed a 2 vehicle accident, blocking and requested an additional squad.
Brush Fire on Woolper Road
3/7/2009 – At 11:26 units were alerted for a brush fire in the 5800 block of Woolper Road . Brush Truck 717 on scene reported a several acre brush fire and requested an additional brush truck and 2 tankers. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished, in all 4 acres burned.
Building Fire on Featherstone Drive
2/28/2009 – At 21:03 units were alerted for a building fire in the 3100 block of Featherstone Drive , PSCC was advising that the occupant could see flames in her garage and was evacuating the building. Upon arrival Engine 701 reported smoke showing, they had laid in from a hydrant and were stretching a 2 ½” attack line. The fire was quickly brought under control. Hebron Engine 351 also assisted with this fire.
Vehicle Fires on Douglas Drive
2/28/2009 – At 20:16 Engine 701 was dispatched to the 2800 block of Douglas Drive for a reported vehicle fire. On scene 701 discovered that they had 2 vehicle burning side-by-side. The crew extinguished the fire and investigated the cause.
MVA on Washington Street
2/25/2009 – At 17:40 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Rogers Lane for a reported motor vehicle accident. On scene units confirmed an accident in the intersection and reported minor injuries.
Building Fire on Southpointe Drive
2/21/2009 – At 08:39 units were alerted for a possible building fire in the 6000 block of Southpointe Drive . While enroute the companies were advised that the caller was reporting a fire in the closet of the apartment. Engine 701 arrived to find light smoke showing, however they quickly advised that the fire was out. We ask that parents make sure that all matches and lighters are put up and out of reach from children. This fire could have been a lot worse had it not been for the quick thinking of the resident.
MVA on Idlewild Road
2/14/2009 – At 20:17 Engine 701 was dispatched to the area of Idlewild Road and Easton Lane for a reported motor vehicle accident with wires down. On scene 701 secured the area and awaited the arrival of the utility company.
Unknown Type Fire on East Bend Road
2/8/2009 – At 03:51 Engine 701 was dispatched to the 7700 block of East Bend Road for a reported unknown type fire in the front yard of a residence, the caller was also reporting that their power was out. While enroute Engine 701 was updated by the BCSO that a mini-van was fully involved, a pole had been hit and there were wires down. 701 upgraded there response to emergency and requested that Squad 714 be dispatched.
Chimney Fire on Burlington Pike
2/3/2009 – At 18:49 units were alerted for possibility of fire in the walls of a building in the 3100 block of Burlington Pike. Upon arrival Engine 701 confirmed they had a fire in a wall surrounding a chimney. After an extensive effort to reach the seat of the fire, it was extinguished. Personnel were on scene for approximately 2 hours during the height of a heavy snow storm.
Snow and Ice Storm Hits the Tri-State
2/1-3/2009 – A slow moving snow and ice storm struck the tri-state area dumping about 8 inches of snow and 1.5 inches of ice. The department stayed fairly busy running our normal calls during the storm, however once the ice started to accumulate on wires and trees calls started coming in for downed lines. We run approximately 15 calls during the storm for various types of emergencies.
Kitchen Fire on Dorado Drive
1/13/2009 – At 19:46 PSCC alerted units for a possible kitchen fire in the 2700 block of Dorado Drive . Upon arrival the fire was reported out, the homeowner had removed the flaming pot from the building and extinguished the fire in the kitchen. Personnel overhauled the kitchen and removed smoke from the building.
MVA on Pleasant Valley Road
1/12/2009 – At 08:23 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatched to the area of Pleasant Valley Road and Solomon Road for a reported vehicle accident with possible injuries. Car 726 (Assistant Chief Klaserner) arrived on scene and confirmed a single vehicle accident, a vehicle over the hillside, occupied. Personnel assisted the occupant and her son out of the vehicle; they were not injured and refused treatment. Engine 701 and Car 726 stood-by on scene and waited for the wrecker to remove the vehicle from over the hillside.
MVA on Burlington Pike
1/8/2009 – At 14:42 Engine 701 and Squad 714 were dispatch to the 2400 block of Burlington Pike for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. Units arrived to find a two vehicle t-bone accident blocking eastbound Burlington Pike. Command was established by Car 726 (Assistant Chief Klaserner) and an additional squad was requested. Two people were transported to an area hospital for observation.
MVA on Kingsgate Drive
1/7/2009 – At 01:26 Engine 701 and Squad 715 were dispatched to the 6000 block of Kingsgate Drive for a reported vehicle accident with injuries. On scene units found a vehicle flipped over on its top, after striking a parked car. One person was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.
Building Fire on Rosetta Drive
1/5/2009– At 01:33 units were dispatched to the 6400 block of Rosetta Drive for a reported building fire, the caller was reporting a fire in a bedroom in the apartment. Car 725 (Chief Barlow) arrived first, just ahead of Engine 701 and reported nothing showing. However upon further investigation smoke was noted to be filling the hallway and the Sheriff’s Officers on scene were reporting a working fire in a basement apartment. The first was quickly controlled and held to one apartment.
